This Thanksgiving, we were once again blessed to have two Thanksgiving celebrations. On Thursday, we headed up to spend the day with Ellis's family, then, on Friday evening, we headed to my parent's house for a yummy feast. All the food was wonderful, so many thanks to all the great cooks!!
I was not a good picture taker this Thanksgiving. I got only a few from Thanksgiving Day and none from Mom & Dad's. But here are some fun moments I captured from our day on Thanksgiving in the upstate:
Ellis with Anna & Will
And Ellis taking a little pre-feast nap with Anna ... Kate's 7th birthday was on Thanksgiving this year, so we had cake and presents for dessert!
Will was really looking forward to the birthday cake. I mean, really looking forward to it. Notice Anna politely nibbling at her cake, and notice Will chowing down on the whole piece!
How about double-fisting the cake slice?? Y'all - he went nuts over that cake. Kept eating and eating till it was gone in like one minute - barely stopped to take one sip of milk.
And wouldn't you know it, he actually LICKED the plate clean!!! And after he finished? He looked up at me and said "more??". The kids needed to burn some of that sugar energy. Aunt Kathy & Uncle Clarence have a fabulously huge backyard. The kids have lots of room to roam free!
And this is one of my favorite pictures. The boys - wiping out for a Thanksgiving nap...
The week before Thanksgiving, Will had his first school program. It was pretty strange to find myself one of those parents with cameras and videocameras all ready - waiting in anticipation for my son to come out, sit in a chair, and mumble a few lines of song. But I was! And I was so proud! He was the only one in his class who actually tried to sing, and apparently he insisted he get a chair like the big kids instead of sitting on the floor with his classmates.
Will did great until I put my camera down, and he saw me. Then, he exclaimed "Mommy!" and started to cry when his teacher tried to make him stay. So, she let him go, and he plowed through a line of kids sitting in front of him and ran to me screaming "Mommy! Daddy!". It was actually kind of cute - even if he did miss the last song.
So, no fancy pilgrims or Indian costumes - but it was still fun all the same! (Although, the feast afterwards wasn't too much fun for parents of the really little ones. We were chasing after him more than eating a Thanksgiving lunch with him!)
(Oh yea - and I guess I assumed that everyone would know who Will was in the video. But is rather a grainy, bad version. He is the little blondie in the middle, sitting in the little red chair - singing and be-bopping to "Jesus Loves Me".)
(I don't know why it is that he is eating red applesauce whenever I videotape him after eating ... I guess I just don't notice the utter mess he has made until later - when I re-watch it on video. But the video still cracks me up - even if he is covered in red globs of applesauce!)
The other day, I had set Will to play by himself for a bit while I cooked in the kitchen. Things got quiet, so of course I suspected he was up to something bad. But I looked over, and he had gotten a book, crawled into a chair, and was quietly reading it! :-) Just when I'm least expecting it, he goes and shows me how fast he is growing up.
Okay, this has got to be Will's favorite phrase of all time. I guess he is getting ready to ask "why?" all the time. But he says this phrase in a particular way and with such emphasis that it cracks me up everytime I think of it. Last night, I swear I had that boy in stitches when he continually pointed to the news on TV and would exclaim "WHA'S THAT?" and I would look at the TV, then look at him and exclaim as to what it was. He loves that game, and I'll enjoy it while we've got it because its much easier than the "why" game (and I like to think is helping expand his vocabulary).
I've got to post a video of him saying it ... and I have another video I tried to post this weekend but blogger is being horrible about uploading videos and drop shots now wants to charge me to use it. Anyone have thoughts on easy ways to upload videos on your blog? Or should I break down and pay drop shots?
Will had so much fun Halloween night. Thankfully, he was about 90% better by then, and his tummy even felt good enough to ask for "sucker" - "open sucker!" As we rolled him around the neighborhood in his wagon. What a difference a year makes. Last year, he had no clue what was going on, but this year he ran everywhere. He quickly figured out what would happen if he ran up to doors with the lights on. I taught him how to say trick or treat beforehand, but he would freeze when someone opened the door - mesmerized by the bowl of candy they were offering him.
