Christmas Morning 2009

Christmas morning, Will slept until almost 7:30. Grandma, Bapa, Uncle Steve and Aunt Mary were ready to come over as early as 7, waiting by the phone until I said Will was up. They arrived a little after 7:30 just when Will was starting to totally lose his patience. Its a Held family tradition that I'm afraid my kids will have to suffer! :-) You have to wait at the top of the stairs until Mommy & Daddy get everything ready and tell you you can come downstairs. I made the mistake of telling Will that it was very fun downstairs and that Santa had been here! It was so cute to see how excited he got when he realized Santa had actually come - but then he wanted to go and go NOW. :)


When Will came down, he was a little overwhelmed at first by all the lights, Christmas music, and family watching him. He looked over at the tree, saw Buzz Lightyear, squealed "BUZZ!!!", and then it was all over. Literally. He just was enamored with Buzz and Woody and wouldn't look at his other Santa gifts or open his presents from Mommy and Daddy - except for his stocking (at least not for another few hours!). He promptly broke Buzz's arm within about 10 minutes, slamming him on the floor in such an angle that it broke off. I couldn't believe he broke it, but then again, he didn't care one bit so neither did I.


Buzz is by far his favorite toy from Christmas and, as if he wasn't obsessed with Toy Story before, after Christmas and birthday presents, he is beyond obsessed with all the Buzz characters. Will now sleeps with Buzz and Woody every night. We hear over the monitor all of Buzz's phrases ("I think the word your searching for is Space Ranger." etc etc etc) and the laser going off for a good 30 minutes after lights are out. And then I usually wake up to a phrase or two before he comes out of his bedroom in the morning.

After breakfast, I told Will that Daddy saw another gift from Santa in the garage. Will squealed with excitement to see what it was. (Unfortunately, it was POURING rain Christmas morning so Santa had to put the present in our messy garage.)

We all laughed hard as Will spun this thing in the small space of the garage and Daddy would catch him to try and stop a huge collision. My favorite remark from Will was when things got quiet for a second and Will said "This is so cool!"


After breakfast, Grandma, Bapa, Uncle Steve & Aunt Mary headed back to my parents house. When things calmed down a little bit, Will jumped back into opening gifts and looking at everything else he got. By about 12:30, Will was joyful and happy and Mommy & Daddy were thankful when we all got to take a nap!
