What We've Been Up To

I can't believe it has been 2 weeks since I posted anything about the girls and Will ... and the girls turn 12 weeks old tomorrow. I can't believe it. Here is the skinny on how things are over here and what we've been up to:

  • The girls started smiling early last week (right around 11 weeks old)! They are just gorgeous when they give me a big grin. Slowly but surely, I am able to play with them more and more. Today, we had some fun in the Bumpos for the first time (see pictures above). Catie is in the blue one; Carter in the purple one. Unfortunately, its near impossible for one person to entertain 2 babies and take their picture when they smile. Sigh. Their faces in these pictures crack me up though.
  • We took Will to see Toy Story 3 yesterday. He about died with excitement when it was finally time to leave to see the movie. He sat stick straight on the edge of his chair practically the whole time. He loved it! (And he was seriously adorable in his 3D glasses.)

  • I finally had a photographer take pictures of the girls and Will. She came to the house and we got some adorable shots. Birth announcement should FINALLY be coming soon.
  • The girls still sleep a lot during the day. They will go 5 hours at the most at night, but usually its around 4 hours. I feed them between 8 and 9 and Ellis feeds them between 12 and 1 and then I feed them again between 4 and 5. Splitting up the night duties that way, Ellis and I both get a good bit of sleep. Thank goodness!
  • The girls still sleep in our room in a minicrib by my bedside, but I am ready for them to transition into their room. I'm going to start working on that this week. Its kind of a necessity anyway because the 2 of them don't fit terribly well in the minicrib anymore.
  • Craziness!! I was due to start back at work TODAY. There is not a shred of doubt that I would NOT be ready for that. Thank goodness for extra time off.
  • I have handled all 3 kids a few times on my own, but still not for the bedtime hours. It is absolute MAYHEM around here from about 6pm to 9pm.
  • Will has been swimming a lot in Bapa and Grandma's pool. He is a fish in that water and I am so proud! He is pretty much not afraid to go underwater and is slowly getting the hang of kicking with a kickboard. I just signed him up for swimming lessons at the YMCA, which will happen in mid-July.
  • I have embarked on errands with the girls and felt like Superwoman for handling it just fine. Putting both girls in and out of the car and in and out of "the bus" (aka the double stroller) and pushing that around from store to store is all definitely a challenge.
  • I want to go more places with the girls but have realized that the dead heat of summer is a rough time to have a newborn. It is just too hot to go anywhere outside with them, which makes it hard to find things to do to get out of the house, especially on the weekends with Will.
  • The girls have a bunch of tummy issues that we have been struggling with. They are both on zantac now for reflux. I think Carter's issues may be solved but Catie still seems to have painful reflux. Lots of times, she only eats 1 1/2 ounces at a feeding, which is not enough.
  • The girls are growing right out of newborn sizes and some of the 0-3 onesies are not fitting Carter because she is so long. I have to hurry up and start putting them in the 0-3 month outfits I have before they outgrow everything!

  • Ellis and I had a wonderful time at the Woodlands Inn, but had to scamper home straight to the pediatrician's office on Friday because Will had a 101 temp and strep was going around the school. Thank goodness Will did not have strep and recovered from the virus in 24 hours.
